چکیده

Lymphocytes from 44 patients with various types of tumors were tested for their ability to kill antibody-coated targets (lymphocyte fixation). Lymphocytes from cancer patients, overall, showed significantly less killing than the lymphocytes from normal subjects, multiparous women, and patients with nonmalignant diseases. The lower killing did not correlate with age or stage of the disease. The ability to kill antibody-coated targets did not correlate with the presence or absence of complement-dependent HL-A antibodies in multiparous women and multitransfused pa tients. The subpopulation of lymphocytes responsible for the killing of antibody-coated targets is apparently deficient in cancer patients.

Cell-mediated immunity: differential maturation of mixed leukocyte reaction and cell-mediated lympholysis

While spleen cells from neonatal B10 (H-2b) are reactive (proliferate) in one-way mixed leukocyte culture, cell-mediated lympholysis reactivity does not arise until 7 days of age. When B10 cells are sensitized to B10.D2 (H-2d), cross-killing of third-party B10.BR (H-2k) target is always lower than the specific killing of B10.D2 targets and is not demonstrable until 27 days after birth.

Depressed Cell-mediated Immunity in Patients with Primary Intracranial Tumors

Tumor immunity in patients with primary intracranial tumors was assessed in relation to the general status of host immunocompetence. Lymphocyte sensitization to tumor-specific membrane antigens was demonstrated by the proliferative response of lymphocytes in the presence of autochthonous tumor cells. Paradoxically, one-half of the patients could not be sensitized to a primary antigen, dinitroch...

The Effects of Recombinant Human Erythropoietin (rHuEPO) on Antihuman Lymphocyte Antibodies Titer in Sensitized Rats

Erythropoietin (EPO) was first known as a factor for red blood cell proliferation and differentiation. Recent studies show the effects of EPO on immune system. In this study the antihuman leukocyte antibody (anti-HLA) titer were determined in five groups of rats, which had been sensitized with human lymphocyte. Also, the effects of stimulation's frequency and dose of recombinant human erythropo...

Depression of the generation of cell-mediated cytotoxicity by macrophage-like suppressor cells in bladder carcinoma patients.

Depressed T-lymphocyte function as assessed by delayed-type hypersensitivity reactions and in vitro proliferative response to mitogens is a characteristic finding in many types of solid tumors, including bladder carcinoma. Peripheral blood leukocytes from 16 patients with transitional cell carcinoma of the bladder were compared with age-matched, control subjects. Both the unfractionated leukocy...

Autocrine secretion of Fas ligand shields tumor cells from Fas-mediated killing by cytotoxic lymphocytes.

Mechanisms responsible for resistance of tumors to death receptor-mediated damage by cytotoxic lymphocytes are not well understood. Uveal melanoma cells expressed Fas but were insensitive to Fas triggering induced by bystander cytotoxic T lymphocytes or a Fas-specific agonistic antibody; this could not be ascribed to tumor counterattack against T cells or general resistance of the tumors to apo...
